Chanel Autumn 2008 Gold Make-Up: Facettes D’Or

Gold and metallics has been a huge trend, as seen on the fall runways of Nina Ricci, Badgley Mischka and Chanel. Now, the latter is bringing the gold influence from the runway to its make-up for its Autumn collection, Facettes D’Or. Gold has been increasingly popular in spa beauty too as we all know the ultra-luxurious gold facials right?Facettes D’Or features a range of pure gold shades mixed with traditional winter neutrals. The collection includes the Gold Fiction nail polish ($30), Gold Light Glossimer lip gloss ($26), a quad eye shadow palette with gold, coffee, ivory and dark green eye colors ($56) and my favorite, the limited addition Gold fever Highlighter which can be used all over your face ($56). You can apply a little on your cheeks like in the picture below, especially if you have a little tan, or you can apply it on your eyes for a little shimmery golden look.

For a more dramatic visage, you can even smack some golden tones on your lips for a night out! What is the most fabulous about the Facettes D’Or is that gold looks great on all skin types, from fair to darker. The collection is available online at Chanel.com and will be hitting stores beginning August 25th.

The inspiration for Facettes D’Or is of course Coco’s Paris apartment on 31 Rue Cambon, which has served as inspiration for many of the fashion house’s designs and products. Chanel’s apartment is the ultimate of luxury, passion and art and it is furnished with lots of golden accents, from where the inspiration for the Autumn make-up is drawn. For a detailed look of Mademoiselle Coco’s apartment, you can go to http://www.coco-mademoiselle.com/.

Beauty Review: KENZO AMOUR le Parfum

When this perfume landed on my lap a few months ago, I was taken by surprise. I honestly don’t remember any of my US contacts offering to send it for review (so whoever I need to thank, I hope you get around to reading this and know that I’m meaning to send word). Regardless of how I got it, I’m now here to clue you folks in on how it fared.

I remember mentioning that at first sniff (and learning of notes), I was generally curious about the perfume. It’s woody and musky, scents that I find attractive and would consider wearing. KENZO AMOUR’s scent leaves an elegant impression. It’s definitely more suitable worn with evening wear. Think formal dinner parties or black- tie events. This is all based on the initial whiff.

You have to admire the packaging. From the box to the actual bottle that holds the precious perfume, gorgeous. It actually looks pretty sitting on top of my vanity table. This made me think of people who loves collecting perfume bottles, this one from KENZO will definitely be a good prospect.

When time came for me to wear it, I was expecting instant meshing of destinies. I thought I’ve found a scent that I can add to my growing collection of perfumes. I was disappointed, though.

I’m not sure if it was the humidity, the wet weather, or simply my body chemistry. I was instantly repulsed. It’s not that the scent was truly repulsive, it’s just that my reaction to it made me reach a firm decision never to wear it again. Nauseated with the too sickly sweet scent (powdery sweet vanilla). Simply put, we didn’t mesh well. This is a first since most woody and musky scents are generally compatible. A couple of my perfumes are woody and musky. Odd.

I guess, long story short, KENZO AMOUR won’t fall under my re-purchase list. I actually gave this bottle to a good friend who actually likes the perfume. I reckon it’ll fulfill its purpose in life with someone who’d actually wear the perfume.

KENZO AMOUR le Parfum 1.7oz $92 | 1oz $72

If any of you folks like (or wear) this perfume, do let me know. I’d still love to know what you think despite my odd ramblings.

Evening in Paris Perfume | Buy Evening in Paris Perfume82

One of the most famous names in the world of perfumes is the Evening in Paris perfume. Just the mere mention of this name can make women fall in love with you; a more romantic name for this perfume is Soir de Paris. For years this perfume has been featuring in surprise wedding anniversary gifts, birthday gifts or just a gift for a lover.

The Evening in Paris perfume was first seen in 1928 when perfumer Ernest Beaux created this masterpiece for his perfume company called Bourjois. As soon as it was launched, the word of this perfumes magnificence spread like wild-fire across Paris and this perfume was an immediate success.

When it was launched in 1928, it was only known as Soir de Paris, but the company soon realized the global potential and for sale in the US the perfume was renamed Evening in Paris.

What makes this perfume so special? Let’s give you an insight into what really goes into making this masterpiece. This classic perfume has a soft and sweet floral scent that is enhanced by bergamot and violets. The heart notes of this perfume are formed by jasmine, tilleul, lilac, clover and rose, whereas the base notes comprise of styrax and vetiver.

This combination has made the Evening in Paris perfume by Bourjois’, it’s most successful ever perfume. The perfume gained immense popularity in the 1930’s and 1940’s and popularity peaked in 1950’s. However, surprisingly in 1969 the perfume just vanished from the markets.

The perfume then was available in a variety of different options such as perfume, eau de cologne and eau de toilette. Apart from these more famous ways of selling the perfume, Bourjois also sold the perfume in sachet bottles, lipstick, dusting powder boxes, perfumed bath oil, cologne sticks, face powder, talc powder, bath cubes, hand lotion and rouge.

In 1992, this legendary perfume was re-invented and launched by Bourjois. Though the base of the perfume remains the same, new creators Jacques Polge and Francois Demachy added a personal touch. The Evening in Paris perfume today has a fresh fruity touch to it with apricot and peach being added to the bergamot and violet top notes. The heart notes comprise of all the previous ingredients plus ylang-ylang, lily-of-the-valley, orris and heliotrope. To the base they’ve added sandalwood, amber, musk and vanilla.

The Bourjois Company that makes the Evening in Paris perfume is now owned by the fashion house Chanel. However, Chanel still continues to sell the perfume under its original name. Earlier and even today the perfume came in a variety of bottles and is a collector’s delight.

Some of the most famous bottles that this perfume ever came in are cobalt bottles with silver triangle labels (1920’s to 1940’s), cobalt bottles with either silver rectangle labels or silver curved labels (1930’s to 1950’s), clear glass bottles with gold labels (1940’s to 1950’s), gilded glass bottles (1950’s), bullet shape purse falcons (1950’s) and an upside down half crescent bottle (1990’s to current).

Mikimoto Pearls: Must-Have Fashion Accesories

Pearls as fashion accessories are having a comeback nowadays. It started when Michelle Obama used pearls during the presidential campaign last year. Tracing back the history, a lot of first ladies worn pearls in every social event. Jackie Kennedy was famous for her choker pearls, Barbara and Laura Bush had simple pearl necklaces. Other politicians such as Dianne Feinstein, Hilary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi did not hesitate to follow this fashion trend.

Now, if you want to ride this fashion bandwagon, you can buy finest quality pearls from Mikimoto Pearls. MIKIMOTO was founded in 1893 by Kokichi Mikimoto. Mikimoto pearls are high quality and with elegance. So what are you waiting for? Visit the site and shop some Mikimoto pearls and use them as your fashion accessories. Here are some of the Mikimoto pearls sample:

Fashion and Windsor Pearls Reign Again at Sotheby’s Upcoming December Sale

The December 4, 2007 sale at Sotheby’s will definitely be one for the jewel history books. Twenty years ago, the venerable auction house sold off the incredible ornaments owned and worn by Wallis Simpson, the woman famous for marrying King Edward VIII who eventually abdicated his post “for the woman I love.” Simpson was known for her personal style (her clothing was impeccable) and her truly remarkable taste in fine jewelry. Given her iconic stature fashion-wise it was not surprising that her jewelry, and in particular her pearls, captured the imagination of Calvin Klein. He purchased them for his wife and muse, Kelly Klein, twenty years ago at the mother-of-all-auctions, the sale of the Duchess’ bejeweled estate.

This was an event of unprecedented stature and took place on April 2, 1987. The auction room in Geneva was packed wall-to-wall with 1500 bidders, another 700 were linked by closed-circuit television (can you imagine if we had the internet then?!) at the hotel next door, and the auction rooms in New York were connected via satellite. The sale took three times longer than normal simply due to the number of those placing bids. The whole world was watching the drama unfold live around the world. Those with the means to bid on these historic pieces did so with abandon because there would never be a sale of this magnitude again. And of all the lots offered, this strand of natural pearls was by far the most coveted and arguably one of the most renowned ornaments in the world.

Magnificently matched, this strand has no equal. The drop pendant is a whopping 18.4 mm. There is also an iconic pair of pearl earrings in this sale that belonged to the Duchess–one sporting a black pearl and the other a white (I love black and white pearls worn this way–it’s a grown up version of rebel-chic—maybe it was Wallis’ way of thumbing her nose at British monarchy–heaven knows they wear their pearls conventionally and of the same color).

The December 4, 2007 sale will be notable for another reason too. I will be contributing my thoughts on jewelry and fashion as part of the catalog for this sale. In addition to the Windsor/Klein pearl lot, there are others jewels on offer that will definitely knock your socks off, from Boivin to a lyrical Van Cleef & Arpels watch/bracelet that was given to Princess Grace of Monaco (aka actress Grace Kelly). When I was up at Sotheby’s last, I tried it on and it is breathtaking (and fit me perfectly, I might add). The yellow gold and diamonds are scrumptious and the metal has been fashioned to look like a lace bow–I picture it with a wasp-waisted suit from Dior’s New Look (the late 1940s/early 50s). Life in jewelry is sparkling and I usually don’t desire everything I see, however this piece spoke of a time when fashion returned to its glamorous coordinates and all I could say to myself was, if only

History Lessons - Viktor & Rolf

Models wearing scaffolding, music played backwards and Commedia dell'Arte, nothing is off limits for the eccentric duo from the Netherlands. It's time to throw ourselves down the rabbit-hole and into the weird and wonderful world of Viktor & Rolf.

A highly advised visit to their website gives you a brief glimpse into just how bizarre and beautiful the minds of Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren are. The fairy tale elements, romantic decadence and the overall surrealism that you'll find there is just the tip of the iceberg. The two met at Arnhem art school, in the Netherlands and after unassumingly winning the top prize at the Festival d'Hyres, decided that they could be onto a winning combination. Their avant-garde designs were at first more attractive to art galleries and museums than the fashion world, but their first haut-couture show which turned out to be a clandestine affair during Paris Fashion Week 1998 would make them one of the most talked about design labels of the past two decades, a position they undoubtedly hold to date. With shows like L'Apparence du Vide a scathing attack at unfounded hype surrounding supermodels and designers and Bells an allusion to the elusive nature of fashion Viktor and Rolf use haute couture as a self-confessed laboratory' and a way to look reflect on the fashion industry, which is probably what makes them so terrifying and inspirational for members of the fashion community. In 2003 V&R obtained a coveted contract with L'Oral and were able to develop their signature female fragrance Flowerbomb, and later the male scent, Antidote. The label began to gather more media and celebrity attention, and Rufus Wainwright and Tori Amos would soon become avid fans. 2006 saw an unexpected collaboration with H&M and the revelation to a wider audience that the kooky couple's prt-a-porter- could be more practical but just as beautiful as their haute-couture designs. Last year Viktor and Rolf returned to the world of the museum as the Barbican opened there doors to the pair, commissioning The House of Viktor & Rolf', hand-crafted Belgian dolls wearing miniature versions of the label's signature outfits from the previous 15 years. It proved to be very successful, quirky and a little bit creepy, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a pair of Dutch guys who dress in matching attire. In the same year Renzo Rosso, owner of the Diesel empire would buy a substantial share of the V&R show, a move towards more publicity and wider availability. Their show at Paris Fashion Week 2009 was no less surprising than expected, with stunning dresses that seemed to defy logic and the laws of physics. Whether it's squeals of delight or shrieks of horror, Viktor and Rolf will always inspire a reaction and encourage us to question what we consider fashion to be, which is what the best kind of fashion does.

Elite Handbag: Clara Kasavina Bling Bling

The very mention of “bling bling” summons imagery of anything garish and away from the ordinary falling into the bejeweled category. Considering this, I think the tag of Bling Bling doesn’t suit to the tote featured above. Undoubtedly, it is an elite handbag clad with glittering surface inviting eyeballs.

Noticeably vintage-inspired, the material of this metal-frame tote is shaped from connected Crystals, designing an open interlace of trinkets over the hoary lining. Additional crystals spot the handle and the clutch is bejeweled with a set of large Swarovski Crystal intonation.

Perfume Video Game

Fragrance aficionados, check out Passport to Perfume, a new video game from PlayFirst. You play Sophia, a master perfumer in the 1940s, and you create and sell virtual fragrances by mixing individual notes, picking pretty bottles, and managing your own boutique. On weekends, you get to travel the world looking for rare ingredients, glamorous bottles, and exotic fragrance recipes—or search out the recipe for a scent once worn by Marie Antoinette. What does a real-life perfumer think of the game? Rodrigo Flores-Roux, senior perfumer for the fragrance company Givaudan (which, incidentally, has actually done a scent based on one Marie Antoinette wore) enjoyed trying it out. His only disappointment: "What a shame you don't get to wear your fragrance creation in the end." He's got a point—but we still found the game totally addictive.

Anne of Green Gables Giveaway

Fans of the Anne of Green Gables books, movies, and television show The Road to Avonlea are going to love this… I recently had the opportunity to sample some of the Anne Shirley Avonlea Perfume. I’m going to be giving away a bottle of theAnne Shirley Avonlea scent and a tote bag.

My girls and I all tried the perfume. It’s a floral with notes of Apple Blossom, Jasmine, Lilac, and Rose. I think it’s well-suited to someone young or anyone who likes a light, flowery scent.

Sarah, my youngest, has taken possession of the bottle and we had a big conversation about how to use it, when to use it, and how to not over-use it. The florals are clear and fresh, making this a good choice for a first scent for a girl.

Harajuku Lovers Fragrances

If I know you in person you probably already know about these - but Harajuku Fragrances from Gwen Stefani is here! I received a package prior to the release of the perfumes out to stores, and I have to say that at first I placed it into the “teenie bopper” category. It’s actually turned out to have more of a fun flare - I don’t find the scents to be ones that a kiddie could appreciate. Why? There’s a sampling of all varieties - from the light and sweet to the heavier and more sharp smells.

Be not deceived by the adorable nature of the characters - Love, Lil Angel, G, Music, and Baby cater to the roaming yuppies as well. I’m finding them unusually addictive, and now equipped with a plethora of these goodies, I’m able to satisfy my overindulgence of scent products. Included in my set? A Harajuku Lovers makeup bag, drawstring bag, 5 mini fragrances, an abundance of samples, a Harajuku lovers charm bracelet (with cartoon heads - it’s not as scary as it sounds), and postcards for an extra 1500 Shoppers Optimum Points with a Harajuku Lovers perfume purchase (oo, alliteration).

Daisy Marc Jacobs Solid Perfume Pendant

Daisies are LOVE. Marc Jacobs is LOVE. Perfumes are LOVE. Pendants are LOVE. This Daisy Marc Jacobs Solid Perfume Pendant is most definitely worth looking into to see if it is also made of LOVE. It does have all the elements, yes?
The Pendant comes in a gold pouchette — making it easy to take Marc Jacobs with you anywhere you want to go.

Daisy Marc Jacobs Solid Perfume Pendant will cost $40 (roughly around Php 1,920.00) for the 75g / 0.02oz bottle when it’s made available come October 2009. It’s reported that it will be in select department stores in the US for a limited time. I wonder if it’ll make it to the Philippine market. I hope so cuz if it’s not possible for me to get one, at least, I’d be able to see it in person. Heh.

How about you folks? Any new perfumes on your list of must-haves?

Beauty Tips for a Healthy and Natural Look

Beauty is skin deep’, so goes the good old saying. But, that does not rob the charm of enhancing your looks. So, hey there, beauty conscious, there’s just no harm in having some of the best beauty tips up your sleeves. For looking and feeling beautiful is a sign of health and happiness. And in an age where looking good spells confidence and success, it’s vital that you have the best beauty tips handy.

Pamper Your Body. The first secret to true beauty is a natural body glow. Try a refreshing exfoliate with a homemade mix of olive oil, sea salt or sugar. Dry brushing your body, preferably with a natural bristle brush before a bath. It helps to stimulate the glands.

A Little Thought for your Eyes, Hands and Feet. Moisturise your hands and feet regularly. Don’t forget to file your nails and apply nail polish. Free your eyes of the tired look simply with a spoon. Keep it in the fridge and apply to the eyelids. Once you have ensured a healthy body, be in fashion with the best make-up tips.

Magic of Natural Make-Up. The secret of smart make-up is to keep it natural. But often unhygienic and wrong use of make-up causes harm. Here are the best beauty tips to avoid a make-up mess:
- Eye care: To ensure healthy eyes change your mascara every three months, eye shadows every six to twelve months and sharpen your eye pencil regularly.
- Mascara basics: To avoid mascara smudging, apply a thin layer to the top lashes only and then use an eyelash brush.
- Natural glow: A gel blush or cream gives a more natural look than a powder.
- Brow beauty: For a natural look, eyebrows must not look pencil thin. Use a definer for extra volume.
- Eyeliner tips: Use liquid liner instead of a pencil, to avoid smudging in the crease of the lid.
- Foundation fashion: While choosing a concealer or foundation, check the shade on the palm side of your wrist. It tells whether the shade would look natural on you.

Haute Hair Tips. A homemade hair pack is better than shampooing. Natural stuff like apple cider vinegar keeps shampoo toxins at bay. The right hairdo makes the correct fashion statement. Always discuss your face shape with your hairdresser, to decide on a style

Do’s ‘N’ Don’ts. Common beauty blunders arise from ignorance. Here are the best beauty tips to be better informed:
- Avoid soap and switch to natural cleansers
- Wash your face often
- Use an eye cream regularly
- Drink lots of water
- Never forget a sunscreen
- Use natural beauty packs

Mind Matters. Last but not the least; you just can’t glow unless its heart felt. So, the best beauty tips include doing something you enjoy whenever you can. Always take a break, chat with friends, forget your worries, set your mind free and just watch the wonders.

Beauty: Tips from a regular girls makeup bag

Sure, celebrities are always touting the contents of their makeup bags and their beauty must-haves. This is all well and good, but when it comes down to it, we’d all look flawless if we had a legion of beauticians applying our makeup every morning. Here in the Big Apple, most of us work ridiculous hours, yet almost never head home directly after work.

When you’re going to bed at 1 am and waking up six hours later to head to the office, it wreaks havoc on your appearance…and it’s only Tuesday! So what’s a girl to do when she has to dress up for work and look her best? I rely on a tried and true routine, no
. I always make time for a long shower in the morning, no matter how tired I am. I feel that much more refreshed; normally I use the Whole Foods brand Lavender body wash, but if you want to pamper yourself check out Kiehl’s body wash in lemon verbena; something about citrus-y scents always wakes me up in the morning.

2. I use Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer with spf 20. It provides a touch of moisture, a hint of color to even out my complexion and an spf to block out UV rays. It’s super lightweight and non-greasy, so it’s perfect for use all year round (I throw on some extra moisturizer underneath during the winter).

3. Now, onto those terrible dark circles under my eyes (if I’m lucky there is no puffiness)! I swear by Sephora brand Cooling Cover Stick in Clair 01. It blends perfectly and is a great under-eye concealer as well as to pat on to any trouble spots. It’s perfectly pocket sized as well and at $12 won’t break the bank, so you can tuck one into your bag for last-minute touch-ups during the day. I think that this may be magic in a tube; my skin is very fair but my sister has super-dark Brazilian-like skin and this is a great under-eye concealer for her too.

4. To finish up my eyes, I use Maybelline Unstoppable eyeliner in espresso on my lower inside lashes only. Then I swipe on a light gold eyeshadow on the inner corner of my eyes (I use Sephora brand Strass No. 17 but any gold that suits your skin tone is fine)….

5. and a light coat of MAC Zoom Lash mascara on my top lashes. If it’s really dire, I’ll swipe some on my lower lashes as well.

6. And finally, blush! I use Cargo blush in Tonga but the color isn’t pink enough for me (although it has good coverage) so once I’ve finished this up I’m switching over to MAC powder blush, as recommended by a friend who has gotten me addicted.

Once I’ve rectified my late night with makeup, I’m almost ready to go. The final step in my routine? The largest cup of coffee I can find.

Tousling is such a funny word

Hey, do you guys remember when Herbal Essences was all porny? "A totally organic experience." Really? Anyway, I am so glad they are over that. Nowadays, I don't think you can buy the body wash any more, but they have definitely branched out in the hair care arena. They have product collections that range from helping color treated hair, hydrating hair, straight hair and curly hair, to name a few. Now, their newest collection aims to help the lovelies get pretty tousled hair in their "tousle me softly" collection.# shampoo for a tousled look
# conditioner for a tousled look
# mousse for easy tousling
# tousling spray gel
# flexible hold hair spray
# finishing touch cream

I was able to try all of them, and I really came out with a favorite - the finishing touch cream. All of the products have a really nice "wild violet and pomegranate" scent, so, slightly floral. Well, I say slightly - the shampoo and conditioner have a strong scent in the shower, but it wears off soon after (if you don't use any of the other products. If you do, well, you are just layering on the scent and it will stick around much longer).

Review:The Ivory Magnolia...

I've developed a serious infatuation with Etsy. I mean handmade earrings and soaps for under $5? Paypal it!! But you know, I'm "granola" like that. I recently discovered The Ivory Magnolia, ironically located out of "Metro Ci-tay", Columbia SC. So they already had the upper hand for me.:) I got the Satin Body Cream, a satiny mixed body cream that leaves no oily residue with has great feel on your skin. I got it in Cotton Candy,Lemon and the namesake fragrance,Ivory Magnolia. I layered my Aquolina Pink Sugar with Cotton Candy and used the Lemon after a did a body scrub with Asquith and Somerset Apricot and Honey Body Scrub. I'm ordering next in Exotic Jasmine Vanilla and Blue Coconut Cream and Unscented. Check them out at

Accessorise Your Outfits

French women really know how to do accessories. While in some countries Girl Guides are learning how to tie knots in rope, I swear French girls are learning the many ways to tie a scarf and how it can be used to lend some style to your look.

Simple jewellery: An elegant pendant, pretty studded earrings or strands of pearls are often accessories of choice as they exude quiet confidence when compared to huge dangly earrings and excessive bling.
Scarves: There are myriad ways to dress up the outfit with a scarf knotted at the neck, draped across the shoulders, used to hold the hair back or tied around the waistband of jeans – there are so many ways to wear these silk squares. Check out this video for inspiration
Tights: French women love to wear tights. They will often be seen in black opaque tights or more quirky patterns to create interest to an outfit.
Red lipstick – Choose a shade that suits you and wear it when you want to be seen or be sexy! Choose blue-based reds for pale skin tones or orange-based reds for olive skin tones - there is a shade to suit everyone.

Remember, it’s the little accessories that dress up an otherwise fairly simple wardrobe. A good rule is to add them carefully but don’t add too many at once.
Francois Hardy et Jane Birkin

Investment pieces
Good fabrics make the difference between cheap style and chic style, but there’s no need to splurge on a designer price tag or ‘style du jour’ pieces.

Choosing Colour for Your Wardrobe
The grande dame of fashion Coco Chanel once wisely said, “"The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good, on you!”
That said, French women often shop in neutrals so that everything in their wardrobe can be mixed together easily. You’ll often see them dressed in black, navy, cream, taupe and red.

You can’t go wrong, anywhere, anytime pieces that French women always have in their wardrobe include:
A classic trench will last you for years, as will a quality leather jacket.
LBD – The little black dress – it doesn’t have to be miniscule, you can leave that to the LA girls and body con Sydneysiders, but a classic black shift can be dressed up or down and accessorised to suit any occasion.
Crisp white shirt – Whether worn with tailored pants, a chic belt and a scarf knotted at the neck, paired with jeans, and accessorized with a scarf tied around the waist or teamed with a pencil skirt, some quirky patterned tights and high heels - a white shirt is always cool.
Black pencil skirt – A classic look – wear in summer with flat sandals, a singlet and a scarf and through to the cooler season with quirky tights, a poloneck sweater and a leather jacket. So versatile!
Tailored trousers – Whether they are designer drainpipes or culottes is up to your figure shape. Remember to wear what suits your body not what is the latest fashion. Skinny jeans do not work for everyone.
Comfortable flats – Heels might like wonderful while you are standing still, but for a woman on a mission a pair of comfortable and cute flats will take you from A to B much faster. No matter how lovely the heels, if a woman is in obvious pain wearing them the look is more laughable than graceful.

French women love to eat, but don't let it ruin their chic
Interestingly, the French have less than an 11% obesity rate, whereas in New Zealand ours is around 25% - the second highest ranking in the world, beneath the United States (34% in 2006). The French love to eat – and they eat rich creamy foods, decadent chocolates, fine wines and yes, lots of bread. But the theory behind how they handle this foodie lifestyle without breaking the scales is because they know that food itself is not the enemy, gluttony is.

Below are some basic tips for enjoying your food – French style…
Swap a bar of chocolate for a small piece of high quality hand crafted dark chocolate and savour the flavour.
Eat more vegetables at every meal.
Eat at meal-times – not on the run, at your desk, or in front of the TV. Enjoy the meal as a time to relax and catch up with loved ones.
If you indulge one meal, compensate for that indulgence in the next.
Walk everywhere you can. (Remember the above note on wearing flats!)

The importance of skincare
It is said that there are more than 400 different anti-cellulite creams on the market in France. Coco Chanel once said, “Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty.” The French are passionate about skincare and they learn to take care of their skin from a young age. Spas and facials are considered more of a beauty ritual than a rare indulgence. Taking care of your skin does not only mean you look better in the long run, but you feel better every day. Treat your moisturising time as ‘you time’ and a chance to pamper yourself and enjoy the pleasures of smelling wonderful and having smooth skin. It should feel like a pleasure, not a pain.

Artistry helps women face the world with confidence

MANILA, Philippines - Led by Artistry’s makeup master Victor Ortega, guests of the “Artistry Make-up 101” event learned about the right techniques on makeup application to enhance one’s natural features. Throughout the afternoon, the attendees listened intently as Victor explained how to highlight one’s unique appearance. He tackled different topics and demonstrated his signature makeup looks to the audience.

“Usually, women become makeup victims because they don’t know how to draw attention to their best features,” notes Victor. “Most Filipinas, for example, would use makeup not fit for their skin tone in their desire to be fairer. But the key to making cosmetics work for you is to first start appreciating your features, and then using makeup to emphasize them.”

And as Victor shared his beauty secrets with the audience, he stressed the importance of using the right beauty products fit for one’s type, especially those that help in improving and maintaining the skin’s texture and appearance.

“Women should be particular in using only high quality lipsticks and pressed powders for their everyday makeup essentials,” reminds Victor. “Having used different cosmetics in my years of experience as a makeup artist, I’ve come to trust Artistry’s line of products as one of the best on the market — helping every woman out there to flaunt their best inherent traits.”

Artistry is exclusively distributed by Amway Philippines. For more information, call 814-8181 or visit www.amway.com.ph.

Time Saving Beauty Tricks

You wake up to realize you set your alarm for 6:51 instead of 6:15, then you remember it’s hair washing day. Your partner needs a shirt ironed (cause “I can’t do it like you can hun”) then, as 5 minutes are lost ironing, you throw on your favourite heels in such a flurry a heel snaps off. With coffee as your last saviour you reach the fridge to discover your other half has had the last portion of milk before he notes “geez hun, you’ll be late to work if you don’t hurry” as he casually strolls out the door.

Sound familiar? Yip, us women are a special bunch. It goes without saying that the men in our life with would be lost without us, just as we’d be lost without the simple pleasures of a beauty routine that makes our lives a little less chaotic.

It’s these small yet simple virtues that allow all us ‘Wonderwomen’ to steal a little ‘us’ time. And while we’d all love to have an hour every day to tend to our beauty needs it’s just not reality.

Below I’ve shared my favourite time saving beauty tips and tricks combined with products that will fix your beauty woes in a matter of minutes…

Cleanse and Clean in a Jiffy
When time is short ready to go cleansing wipes are the ultimate solution. If people say they can’t be bothered taking off their foundation before bed, they haven’t discovered Cleansing Wipes or have been living under a rock for the last 10 years. They’re by no means new, but are definitely worth having in your beauty cupboard. In just a couple of minutes you’ll have your makeup off and impurities removed from the skin. The Bloom pack (featured) is enriched with Cucumber, Camellia Leaf, Aloe Vera and Ginseng extracts, to leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed.
1: Bloom Off, Off and Away Cleansing Wipes, RRP $9.95 from Adore Beauty

Three Minute Hair Miracle
Months of hair styling and colouring can weaken the structure of your hair, making it look dry and brittle, causing split ends. “Hair damage can be caused by a variety of factors,” Pantene Specialist Trichologist, Tony Pearce says. ”To address it, you need to use a product that doesn’t just disguise the issue on the hair surface, but that works to restore lost moisture from within the cuticle. Damage repair is all about using a product that actually penetrates the cortex and gets to the source of the problem.” Pantene 3 Minute Miracle can help to repair 3 months of accumulated hair damage in just 3 minutes! With Pro–Vitamins that instantly penetrate your hair, its concentrated Pro–V formula hydrates damaged hair from within. Simply apply the Pantene 3 Minute Miracle onto your hair strands following your shampoo and conditioning, leave on for 3 minutes and rinse off. You’ll enjoy stronger, more beautiful hair that’s yours to flaunt!
2: Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Treatment, $AU$7.99 for pack of three from Pantene stockists

Style While You Sleep
Don’t have time to curl your hair with rollers every morning? Who does?! I’ve got a great trick that truly works to give you gorgeous, easy curls while you sleep. Wash your hair before bed and while it’s still damp (not dripping wet) put it into one or two plaits. Come morning when you undo your plaits you’ll be left with pretty waves! It’s a good idea to put some product through your hair first to prevent against frizz and enhance your curls. Try Pantene Pro-V Curl Revive Frizz Control Leave In Treatment, full of Pro-Vitamin-rich moisture, which helps to protect against frizz and help make your curls more bouncy and defined.
3: Pantene Pro-V Curl Revive Frizz Control Leave In Treatment, RRP $6.99 from Pantene stockists

Long-lasting Polish
Purchasing a long-lasting quality nail polish saves you money and precious time as you’ll reapply less and enjoy chip-free, crack-free polish for longer. A good polish should stay on your nails for around 7 to 10 days (with a base and top coat). To speed up this process look for products that combine a base coat and top coat in one formula. There are even lacquer drying drops available which will have your nails touch dry in minutes! For a polish that clings to nails, is long-wearing and protects against chipping, peeling and cracking why not try Max Factor Nailfinity Nail Enamel.
4: Max Factor Nailfinity Nail Enamel, RRP $8.90 from Max Factor stockists

Tinted Face Cream
Let’s face it, we’re becoming a heck of a lot more demanding when it comes to face care. Gone are the days when we have time to perform a 5-step skin care regime every morning and night. We demand products that have it all and give us real results. Women everywhere spoke and beauty companies listened, hence the reason our shelves are now lined with creams that boast moisturing properties, anti-ageing properties and foundation all in one product. These products will not only save you time it’ll also make your trip to the beauty counter less painful and you’ll now be able to purchase one or two products that do it all! I’m a big fan of Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation, combining the benefits of an anti-ageing cream with the immediate tone improvement of a sheer foundation.
5: Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation, RRP $30.99 from Olay Stockists

Befriend The Makeup Primer
A foundation primer is your secret weapon for day-long flawless foundation that won’t budge. Nearly all makeup artists will use this to create that flawless skin you see in magazines and on the catwalk. It really does keep your foundation in place for longer and takes just a minute to apply before you put on your foundation. The extra minute spent applying this in the morning will save you having to reapply later in the day. I fell in love with one of the first primers I tried; Napolean Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer containing Chamomile, Yarrow extract and Vitamin E to deliver complexion perfection and instant hydration for all skin types.
6: Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer, RRP $49.50 from Adore Beauty

Fashion and beauty Q&A: make up tips

To celebrate the biggest ever UK fashion and beauty event, 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty running throughout the month of September, we've put together expert answers to the 30 most-asked fashion and beauty questions on All About You.

We'll be publishing a new question and answer every day, brought to you from our magazine fashion and beauty editors, industry experts and AAY writers. Over the month, the questions will build up into an archive and you'll be able to browse through all of the solutions from the daily page.

If you've got a burning question you'd like to have answered, post it below and we'll do our best to track down a solution for you. And don't forget to visit the 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty website to find out about reader events, catwalk shows, workshops, an auction where you have the chance to bid for money-can't-buy experiences, and of course, lots of great competitions and offers.

Today's question:

I've worn the same makeup for years and would love to try something new but don't know where to start or how to get out of my beauty rut. Any suggestions?

One of the best things you can do when you want to revive your look is go to a big department store and have a good look round the makeup section. It is important to test and try everything, as a colour or texture in a magazine may not translate the way you expect it to on your skin.

Department stores are the perfect places to try products and get samples to try at home. Look carefully once something is applied and think carefully if it looks good and flatters you. If it doesn't, wipe it off and move on to the next product until you find something that you feel happy with. Look out for ‘multiple' products such as Ruby & Millie face gloss that can be used on eyes, cheeks and lips. This will give you a fresh look and streamline your make up bag.

Beauty Tip: Smokey Eyes, Colour Cheeks, and Neutral Lips

From top: Smashbox Double Take Lip Color ($25) in "Amaretto", Eye Shadow Palette ($48) in "Monarch" and Lip Gloss ($22, smashboxcanada.com) in "Crowned." Photography by Nicole Stafford
One of Fashion’s favourite beauty trends this season was the nude face. But this wasn’t about ’90s-style brown lipstick. Runway artists used neutrals to create beautifully layered monochromatic looks, and many purposefully skipped eyeliner and mascara to keep everything uniform. “A nude face is about blending the right products in the right order,” says Lori Taylor, lead makeup artist for Smashbox (smashboxcanada.com). Below, Taylor shares a few tips for creating the new nude face.
Eyes
A smokey eye looks especially fresh with neutrals—remember, smokey eyes are about technique, not colour. Taylor gave us a great tip for a two-minute eye: Choose an opalescent shadow and a similar, slightly darker matte. Do a light shimmery wash from lash line to crease, she explains. “Then, take the matte and go all the way around the eye—you can forgo liner.” Actually, that was more like one minute.
Cheeks
“Women are still not wearing enough cheek colour,” says Taylor. For this look, you’re after tans, soft peach, bronze, beige—you get the idea. As with the eyes, the key is mixing finishes. “Something we’re seeing right now is something that has a bit more texture; a little bit of luminosity.” Pick a palette that gives you a matte and a shimmer for a more complex glow. A liquid cheek colour is another good option for a slightly flushed look.
Lips
If you don’t have one already, a good addition to your makeup case is a neutral lip pencil. “I really think liners are having a rebirth,” says Taylor. “But you don’t really want to see the lip liner, you just want to define the shape of your lip.” To get the definition without the harsh line, Taylor recommends choosing a pencil just one shade (or even a half shade) darker than your natural lip colour. Use it on your whole lip—under any shade of lipstick. Bonus: It helps your lipstick last longer.

Current La Mimi Obsession- Maxi Dress

Spring and Summer is all about dressing feminine and light. One of the easiest ways to do that is to put on a dress. It doesn’t take too much thought or effort to wear a maxi dress, as long as you pick the right one for your body shape, insuring it flatters and accentuates all your best features.
Remember to pay attention to the length, material, design and print.

Material- The material has to be flowy and not clingy.
Length- You don’t want it too long or too short, just long enough to almost hit the floor when you are bare feet. That way you can wear it with flats or a bit of platform.
Design- Halternecks are more flattering for those with larger bust. Spaghetti straps are better for those with smaller bust.
Print- choose prints in proportion to your height and weight. Prints that are striking and big on a small frame will look too strong and overpowering.
I already found two maxi dresses for this summer, one in a small print (I’m 5’5) and one in a nice bold turquoise color. Unfortunately, it’s too cold for me to wear them yet. I promise to show them in a post once it warms up.

Hottest Beauty Trend: Fuschia Pink Lips

There is good news for all of you make up lovers. It’s pink and it’s hot!

It seems like every Spring, this hot trend somehow creeps back into our makeup bag. That’s right, I’m talking about bright fuschia pink lips. It’s such a fab addition to any summer outfit, making it more interesting and highlighting your most sensual feature- your lips. Give it a try and you won’t regret it!
Anyone can wear hot pink lips, as long as you pick the RIGHT SHADE for your skin tone and keep the rest of your make up simple.

I have a few different lipsticks in pink, so what I do is mix them, to get that perfect shade that just feels right when I apply it.

Will you be daring to give fuchsia lipstick a try?
